Gervonta "Tank" Davis continued to rumble past his opposition on December 18, 2016, when he took on Luis Sanchez on PBC on Spike.
Gervonta Davis (14-0, 13 KOs) fought to protect his unblemished, undefeated record, and did so by being patient, picking his spots and attacking aggressively when the opportunity presented itself. Usually making quick work of his opponents, Luis Sanchez pushed Gervonta to one of the longest fights in the young fighters career.
In Round 4, Davis scored a knockdown but Sanchez was able to regain his focus on a standing eight count. The two fought toe-to-toe throughout the middle rounds. Gervonta saw an opportunity in Round 9, and Tank delivered an explosive uppercut that sent Sanchez to the canvas.
"I was just listening to my corner, coach Calvin [Ford], coach Kenny [Ellis]... Floyd Mayweather, and they told me to just press the issue," Gervonta Davis said after the fight.
After Gervonta's victory, Floyd Mayweather had this to say about the young fighter: "It's always a good feeling to get the W. He's young and he's still learning but we look forward to seeing him as world champion one day."
